So Marsea's got the better Miami blog happening, there's actually pictures of some of the art, and more folks too. But among them was this one which I totally forgot about. The "conceptual art piece" by Kime Buzzelli & Amber Abramson. Basically in the middle of the art fair Kime and I, exhausted from the night before decided to take a nap so we slipped into the bed underneath some beautiful Caroline Hwang pieces and covered our faces so only our hair was sticking out. It really tripped people out. We were giggling like crazy while people approached the bed saying things like "what is it?" "it's breathing!" then one lady pulled the covers back and I scared the bejeesus out of her, she was obviously expecting to find the dummy from Ferris Bueller's Day Off under there.

Way better Miami blog
Christmas?
This is one is actually just before Xmas day, the start of the solstice. I was driving home from the beach, heading East. The sun is setting in my rear-view mirror, the sky was orange and out from behind the hills the full moon is rising, it was unbelievably beautiful and hard to capture while driving on the freeway with only a cell-phone camera but can you picture it?
Didn't do much for Xmas this year. My folks came to visit, Angelo got a few presents - he's really into Medieval apparatus right now so I got him a crazy looking sword in Chinatown, he loved it. We also did something new this year, Angelo has never really been into accumulating possessions just for the sake of having "stuff" and we try not to play into the consumerism of the holidays (i.e., it's quality vs. quantity) so my parents and I wrote him promissory notes and stuffed them inside Christmas crackers which said things like: "This note is good for a trip to Medieval Times" etc. My folks gave him one for a trip to England this summer to go visit real castles. I thought it was awesome and he was super into it.
I had a potluck at the house with about 20 friends, didn't take a single picture. Anyhow, here's 3 pics from the holidays.
Miami
Gorgeous beach! That water is filled with jellyfish, I never ended up getting in but just sat on the beach a few times when there was a free moment. I think I could live in Miami.
I would take the bus every morning to the Aqua Hotel, and this amazing swamp tree was on the corner at my bus stop. It was so beautiful, there had to be a doorway to some fairy world hiding underneath those vines.

Kelsey Brookes at Scope Art Fair.
Gary Baseman & Jeff Soto outside the Colette party, last night in town.
Me on the roof the Nike/Scope/ANP party, trying to cover up the fact that my feet were screaming at me for torturing them in heels. Light up Miami in the background, Gang Gang Dance was playing below, awesome."A-ron the downtown don" and friend.
Neckface & me somewhere in Miami.Solied Mattress and the Springs playing at the Nike/Scope/ANP party.
Art Basel Miami
Miami was a blast. I was down there with New Image Art, up till 5 am most nights and working all day, pretty much living on crackers and hummus and the free hotel breakfast (long story)I really didn't take many pictures, I should have. Here's a few from the "Positions" exhibit, basically a collection of freight containers turned into mini gallery spaces. There was one of those doing a sound installation - a completely dark room with a stereo system and two rows of seats, and a huge line to get in. Marsea and I got in there, staked our territory (stretched out on the floor, people were tripping over us) and we stayed in there for 2 hours. There was a subliminal message hidden in the music by the artist, we never found out what it was but it was one of my favorite experiences of the week.
Here's a shot Marsea, Kime Buzzelli, and Dede Cheriel - don't remember where we were or whose art is behind them. We had a rad booth, I'll have to get pics from them to share. There's one of me during the Deitch party at the Raleigh, very low-cut dress, shooting laser beams from my cheek - and that's Iggy Pop on stage.
Backtracking
I'm finally finding a moment to post some of these older pics. Time has flown by since Thanksgiving. Here's some pics from the holidays, feasting with friends and family at my mom's house. The mood lighting was on pretty strong by the time we got to eating so all the food looks orange and brown (yum!) but it was really a colorful display of gluttony. There's mom at the stove, my best-friend Sonya next to her, and my step-dad and friend Tim in the background.
