NWA to the big screen - ooh shoot!

“Straight Outta Compton” is to be the title of a new movie project about N.W.A., the famous rapgroup that invented gangster rap according to many. The project will chronicle the rise and fall of the rap group, founded by Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and MC Ren. New Line Cinema will release the motion picture and is actively searching for a director along the lines of Curtis Hanson, who directed Eminem’s project 8 Mile. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube will help produce the film, along with Tomica Wright (Eazy-E’s widow) and Circle of Confusion Entertainment.

Gross

Tonight when I got home, I was sitting at the computer getting ready to take care of biz. My cat jumps up trying to be cute and precious and then pukes all over my desk. On Sunday she killed a humming bird and ate it in the living room ( I wasn't home - Angelo reported this to me over the phone). Later that night she threw it up.

They like red heads

Colourful Gouldian finches can judge if a mate is genetically compatible just by looking at its head.

A female that mates with a male with the same colouring lays eggs that hatch much healthier chicks.

"This is the clearest and perhaps most extreme example of sex biasing that has been found," said Dr Pryke. "It's really black and white - or in this case black and red."

She said that exactly how the birds select the sex of their eggs is still a "big mystery".

"We have an idea that hormones may play a role - but that's a working hypothesis we're looking to test."

Dr Ruedi Nager, a biologist from Glasgow University who specialises in avian reproduction described this as an "excellent experiment".

"It's now clear that the control is driven by the females," he told BBC News.

"Somehow the female recognises the sex of the follicle [or egg cell] and selects it based on how much she likes the male."

I'm lovin' it

The Obama family plan to eat what they grow in the White House...

US First Lady Michelle Obama is set to break the ground for an organic garden on a patch of the south lawn to grow produce for the White House kitchen.

She has promised her whole family will be getting involved, and even President Barack Obama will help with weeding.

The plot of land given over to the new kitchen garden, which will measure about 1,100 sq ft (102.2 sq m), will be visible from the street.

Among the 55 varieties of vegetables the Obamas are planning to cultivate are spinach, chard, collards and black kale.

The initiative will be welcomed by advocates of the eat local movement such as Kitchen Gardeners International, a coalition of gardeners whose mission is to inspire and teach people to grow their own food.

More than 100,000 people signed the group's online petition urging the Obamas to replant an edible garden at the White House. In 1800 John Adams, the first president to live in the White House, planted a garden.

In the last century, Eleanor Roosevelt planted a Victory Garden during the World War II, while the Clintons had a small rooftop garden that grew vegetables and herbs in the 1990s.
