I wanted to share this NY Times article that was forwarded to me (and written by my very favorite cookbook author, Mark Bittman) as I think it's an extremely important issue. We eat mostly vegetarian but I consider myself a "flexatarian" and I try to be extremely conscientious of the where, and what our food comes from. We stick to grass-fed meat when we have it. If you're interested in this topic, which I hope you are because it's beyond being an animal lover, the commercial food industry is totally politically motivated, and environmentally devastating. There is an amazingly informative book called The China Study, that can tell you all about it.
